I use ‘Connect Edges’ a lot as does any Polymodeler. The dialog window could be improved with a feature that allows the the ‘Pinch’ and ‘Slide’ to be “relative” or “absolute.”
For instance:
Imagine the neck of a guitar. To start building the neck you could create a plane that had 6 vertical divisions to represent the strings and 20 horizontal divisions to represent the frets. The frets are not equally spaced so you’d move the vertical edges to where they should be. Now you want to come in and connect the edges between the frets with two edges to begin to create an ‘inset’ space for the pearl dot that would go there.
If you leave ‘Connect Edges’ open and use the ‘Apply’ feature, each time you grab your 6 vertical edges to add two more between fret locations the ‘Pinch’ and ‘Slide’ will have to be manually adjusted because each fret distance is different and the dialog averages the division between the next two unselected edges it sees. It would be nice to do the first one and then select ‘Absolute’ so that when you do the next one (which is wider) the distance between the two new sets of edges is “exactly” the same distance apart as the last one. Then all you have to do is ‘Slide’ as the absolute spacing of the ‘Pinch’ is derived from the last one. Now you’s be certain all of the new divisions are “exactly” the same width.
