Could you please look at the whole crashing/reporting process? As it is, it seems like too many steps to get through the process. I know it’s only a few clicks but perhaps we don’t need any of them in most situations.
Here are a few suggestions:
- Allow for options like auto-reporting. Let me set it up so it doesn’t ask every time it crashes and just sends the report. I realize you ask for what I was doing when it crashes, but wouldn’t it be easier to just send along the last few history steps or something? I’m sure deciphering what people write is a huge time suck anyway.
- I wouldn’t be opposed to it automatically trying to save a backup. If I need it, I’ll know it’s there, but most of the time I wouldn’t lose anything and could just forget about them (not going to run out of space with storage being so cheap). This also lead to another unrelated wish: better tracking of when the file needs to be saved. Even when I know I haven’t made any changes, it often seems to think I have. In my latest frustration, Max is crashing on opening a file--well if it doesn’t load, I obviously haven’t made any changes, let’s not bother even attempting a recovery save.
- I’ve never seen a solution in the page that comes up in IE so let’s either do away with it or make it smarter. Maybe it only comes up IF there is a solution. Could it also just use the my default browser (I haven’t used IE in years partly because it takes a day to start up). It could be time you start supporting more browsers?
- If I do know I’m probably getting the same error over and over, I figure I don’t need to send the report every time. Partly because I don’t want to have to wait for IE to open just so I can close it (see previous suggestion). So I will just close the error report window only to get another window telling me I didn’t send a report. Thanks, but I knew that, and don’t want to have to click another OK just to conclude the process.
Even though crashes have seemed to be more rare these days, when they do occur they seem to come in bunches. When it’s the most likely the same error the three or four clicks it takes to crash is a lot to repeat when all you want to do is get Max started back up again.
Thanks for listening!
