| I wish Max had Fluids options that Maya Unlimited has.

I wish Max had Fluid options that Maya has.
I have enjoyed the Steam, Rain, Smoke, and Fire options that Maya has.
The Ocean Fluid is GREAT within Maya.

Max do have Particles instead of Fluid. haven’t use Maya but we can create smoke, fire, steam every thing using particle . and the best thing of max is it has particle flow where you can create different types of particle system with it.

Omkrishna, you should at least look at the fluid system in maya before posting something like that.
The dynamics system overall, in Maya, is far superior to anything like it in Max. It’s mostly real-time in the viewport, for one, and they actually interact with eachother.
Our particles seem like toys compared to Maya’s system, although the particle editor has a much better interface in Max. I wish we could create materials in a similar fashion without the need for a plugin like node joe. Maya’s particle setup is kind of packed all on one window and it’s a bit more difficult to navigate. That’s something you’ll notice at demos of maya too. I recently saw someone demoing paint effects. Awesome, but the guy kept getting lost in the menus trying to find things anytime someone asked a question.
I don’t think there is anything, without a plugin at least, in Max to compare to Maya’s fluids.

Andy Engelkernier,
Have you gone through the book “Deconstructing the elements with max 6” author of the book is Pete Draper owner of http://www.xenomorphic.co.uk
Its a nice book and it teaches us to create different types of Fire, water, air without plugins

omkrishna in the book “ Deconstructing the elements with max” is about achieving natural effects through procedural modeling and texturing it does not deal with topics such as fluid simulation
and particle dynamics which maybe required for a more complex situation.

There is def. no comparison between Maya’s Fluid system and Max’s Particle System. Hands down Maya is better. However, I love the Max interface. I tend to find things easier and get things done a lot faster. However, I hate to have to rely on external plugins for systems that should be built into 3DS Max like Maya. For instance, I use RealFlow4 to simulate fluid dynamics and Rigid Body structures then export them into max. This can be daunting sometimes. I also use Max’s Rayfire Plugin to simulate destruction rather than using Reactor and PFlow.
All in all...Max has its querkz, but gets better and better upon each update. I have faith that Max will the the Don of all 3D apps in the future..this is my dream, lol........
