Material Editor Icon should have color. What a bonehead mistake, to make that icon without color.
Quick Access Toolbar - needs method to reorder the icons, so I don’t click the wrong one. Who designed this? Someone with tiny hands?
Please make the UI more usable, not less usable.

If you’re refering to the new monochrome-styled icons in Max 2010 you can quickly convert them to coloured versions by loading the default colour file from Max 2009 (this may work for earlier versions of Max but I`ve only tested it with the 2009 colour file).

All icons should have color. Color is one of the primary ways the human eye can distinguish between different objects, and is necessary in my opinion to quickly find the icon you want to press.

Too right.
Make form follow function. OK, as an artist I appreciate aesthetics and making things look nice and all that, but not all Max users are gamers who are bored of just playing, a lot of us actually have a job of work to do. The computer/software is a tool not a fashion accessory, I’ve worked with computers for long enough now not to be sucked in by a pretty UI. Given the choice between something that looks cool, and something that is functional, I know where I stand… ...I’m not a Mac user. ;-)

ALL icons have to have color, sleek is not always usable. I spend a wole day reverting monochrome icons, turning the ribbon OFF and lot of usless “improvements”

For Pete’s sake.. YES… PLEASE BRING BACK THE COLOR!!!
These monochrome icons are retarded. It’s like having to learn brail. You have to memorize the exact location of buttons and look at the buttons to either side just to make sure you’ve got the right one. I’m finally getting around to upgrading to max 2010 and there are some things that have changed that I just can’t understand. Too bad Andy didn’t offer more detail about where to find these color files and where to load them from.

I went into the Maintoolbar_24i file and added colors to my Icons. I also changed the render button to look more like the Maya Icon. Lame I know, but I just need to see the icons at a fast glance.
Here is an image of my UI.

Actually, im not having troubles with the monochrome icons...i have used Max 09 (which has colored icons) for about one year, then i converted to Max 2010 with the monochrome icons, and im not facing troubles, in fact, i SOMETIMES don’t look at the tool bar to select the Curve Editor for example...i guess that it is pretty easy to distinguish the differences in shapes of the icons...aren’t they obvious anyway? Each icon has a certain easy-to-memorize and a distinguishable image or shape; you don’t need to take a close look at each icon for knowing what function does it do, also if you already know where a certain button is located on the tool bar, it would be even easier to recognize it between the many buttons and icons…
After all, this is just my opinion, im not against or with anyone :D

I agree. But for me, the shapes are so much the same it bothered me. Adding a little color just helps for me. I use keyboard shortcuts mostly anyway, but the monochrome poorly designed icons leaves something to be desired. And memorizing the location is all fine and good, but I found myself second guessing what button to press and looking at the adjacent button to make sure. It all boils down to the need for a new Icon set. With Color or not. I have thought of doing this myself at one point, then realized I was crazy.
