Hi

mental ray proxy objects are great. I have been waiting for that for years. However, i noticed that you can not scatter mental ray proxy objects or you can not use them as particle instance object references. Wish i could :)

Actually, you can do both with a little bit of scripting.

http://www.scriptspot.com/bobo/mxs2009/pf2mrproxy/BakePFlowToObjects.zip

You can use this script to scatter mr Proxies or ANY other objects using Particle Flow particles.
Alternatively, it can be used to bake particles to scene objects by creating new keyframed objects looking like and moving like the original particles. (This is unrelated to mr Proxies, but is a bonus of the tool).

This is still Work In Progress with more features to come, but it should get the job done for now.

Sure would be nice if the Hair and Fur Modifier would accept a MR Proxy object as it’s instance node.  Any idea oh how to trick this into being?
(maybe just a way make it look like geometry to max?)

Autodesk:  You give us a great new tool for making many many copies of an object whilst keeping the scene light, but no way to make those copies quickly?
Scatter, Particles and Hair/Fur are the first three things I think of to make many instances of an object and from what I can find, MR Proxy doesn’t work with
any of these out of the box.  Overlooked?  On purpose?
