NURBS in 3DS Max could use a LOT of work, but here are a couple simple things that would help me out a lot.

Some alignment tools.  I should be able to align 3 CVs into a perfectly straight line, or 5 CVs at an intersection into a plane.

I can convert splines into NURBS curves, but I should also be able to convert NURBS curves into splines.

Those should be simple enough to include in the next version of Max.  I’m sure other people could add more suggestions.

it seems like new tools are added to polygons with every release but nurbs doesnt see any improvements. I make 90 percent of my faces with nurbs and a number of other things. they should update it or drop it all togetther

Just a quick aside. While the NURBS tools in the core of Max haven’t really been extended, you might want to look at an ACAP plug-in called Power NURBS Pro from nPower Software. It’s significantly more versatile than what’s built-in, and has it’s own snapping tools to help with CV alignment, etc.

You can even download a demo of it to try out.

I hope that helps.

PowerNURBS caused problems for me, like it’s basic incompatibility with Max’s native NURBS.  I couldn’t load models into Max installations that didn’t have PowerNURBS.  Plus it crashed on me a lot (not that Max’s NURBS didn’t crash on me too, but I’ve been having more luck with it lately.) And of course, every time there’s a new version of Max, all your plugins go bye-bye.

I’d rather Max’s NURBS tools were improved.  Either that, or an alternative would have to be found.
