Don’t mean to be a heretic, but SU is a blazingly fast and accurate modeling tool (not to say that Max is not one too!!).  Thus said, it would be incredibly useful to have a direct importing tool within 3DS for SKP (Sketchup files).  Reason being exports from Sketchup to 3DS are horribly large and impossible to manage.  For example, a 20MB SKP file exports to more than 450MB!  I tried exporting from SU to DXF, but the import took about 25 minutes with 3DS.

I can’t imagine this to be a resouce issue, but if something thinks it is please let me know.  My system is:
Dual core 3.2GHZ, 2GB RAM 800mhz, ATI Radeon HD 3870 512MB, 15,000rpm western digital 140GB HD.

Any idea when this wish might come true?

so many of our architect clients now work in sketchup, but getting their models cleanly in max is still a slow process. do it autodesk - you know it makes sense!
