Split Scan Lines render with multiple columns

Hi,

it would be very handy to be able to split huge renderings not only into multiple rows, but also in some sort of checker pattern with x columns * y rows.
The main reason is that a lot of my architecture renderings render a lot longer on small parts (glossy floors, water, glass thingies), than on the rest of the frame, and using too many rows leads to small but noticeable artifacts between the rows with most of the renderer out there.
Also panorama type pictures (very wide) leads to very stretched, thin rows(rotating the camera 90 deg doesn’t always works).
