I was wondering if such light is possible to create in max or there is a free plugin for this type of light i am looking for.

Light would have following options
Optional target/Shape sphere-cone-rectangle/follow target
Standard shadows support

This light would eliminate the need to have shadows on for light portals because we would be able to fake it easier with this light.

Light should be directional with all standard fall off settings just like any other standard light max has but it would have one advantage: It could be rectangle target light and when target is moved light would stay still changing light direction but not rotate the light origin according to target position.
Kinda like this picture.

2nd part of the image “side not followed” shows that light starts at same place while target moved around thus changing the light angle but not the lights origin.
3rd part of the image “side followed” shows that if option to follow target is “on” then light would act normal following the target and changing its origin as any other standard target light.

Light portals are great but they are extremely slow when it comes to render their shadows, so this would replace the need to use shadows from light portals or maybe light portals at all.
Rest can be taken care of by FG and GI

Is such light exist ? where can i download it ?

[muffled response] :P

This is one forum which, we are reliably informed, Autodesk do read (though they probably won’t reply) so don’t worry too much if other users don’t respond.

well i was kinda hopping that someone would say “yeah this sounds like a good idea. that would be great addon for max :)” or something. That way i would at least know someone would consider this light worth to be posted to wish list and worth to be looked at.
