It would be really handy if I could lock the UVW edit to a viewport.
I’m sure this would be an architectural nightmare, but it would be absolutely awesome.
I feel like the UVW space is really a 3D thing, that no application has done a very good job of displaying.
I’d like to modify the UVW space of my models in a similar capacity as I do the polygonal geometry rather then just as a sub menu of a modifier.
This could be a terrific, and ground breaking improvement to the application.
The small easy version would be a viewport viewing mode where edit-UV floater would appear whenever a mesh or poly object were selected.
Beyond that, it would be great to have an ability to select multiple objects at once.
If you really embraced this idea, what I’d want would essentially be full support to view the UVs of an object as polygonal geometry complete with selection sets, hide/show options, the ability to apply a geometric modifier to a group of UVs etc.
I think if this functionality existed, you suddenly find the quality of UV layouts across the globe would begin to climb.
Once could use the W component to organize their UVs for easy selection, and with easier access to the UVs themselves, they’d have more of an opportunity to fine tune their layouts. The effect of editable poly ‘peserve texture coordinates’ would be immediately visible. etc.
I think it would be great.
