Hi there,

I try to find a clean workflow to get Maya2011 scenes with fbx imported in 3dsmax/Cinema4D.
My plan:
I simply write some scripts to prepare my scenes before exporting and and it works perfect…

My questions:
Should I generally convert all materials to phong? Normally I use mia but they aren’t supported. Blinns are converted to phong during export!
Should I generally bake all procedural maps to file texture?
Are there more general tasks to do?

greeting

Hi,

I am trying to export my Maya scene file, containing a rigged character with animation. I am having trouble figuring out how to export to Cinema 4d. Have you made it work? I am not that familiar with scripting so any help would be great.

Thanks,

Andre

Hi som3D,

Yes, Phong is the better supported material, and yes, Procedural Textures are not exported from Maya so you can bake them.

For more information about what is supported or not in your workflow, I recommend that you take a look at the Autodesk Maya FBX 2011.2 Interoperability Chart, available via the FBX website.
