FBX won't export custom transform nodes

We have an in-house plugin that defines custom transform nodes. There’s nothing special about the nodes, they are simply derived from MPxTransform. When trying to export them with the FBX plugin, it fails, and often will actually crash Maya (2011). I’d like to avoid making workaround code to convert the custom nodes to generic transforms. Does anyone have experience with this issue?

Hello mbatten!

I suggest you have a look at the SDK Extension and see if that technology can help you modify your own plug-in extension. The SDK Extension has been made for the exact purpose of letting users customize their I/O.
