| Maya FBX export does not use selection set
|
|
|
When using File->Export Selection from Maya I expect only the selected nodes to get exported. Unfortunately, the latest FBX exporter (v. 2006.11.2) seems to export everything. Is this going to be fixed? Anyone know of workarounds?

Thank you for this insightful comment. That was it! I can’t believe I didn’t think of that.
Seriously, why even post a response? Again, if anyone has experienced this problem and knows of a workaround, then please let me know.

Hi Amir,
With our current 2009.1 plug-ins, export selected works differently in Maya and 3ds Max. In 3ds Max, only selected objects will be exported. Ancestors are not exported. Parent objects are exported as nodes (dummy objects), if an ancestor is exported with ‘Export Selected’, retaining the same object hierarchy. In the Maya FBX Export Selected option, Maya’s behaviour is mimicked, in that all ancestors and descendants are exported with a selected object.
There may be changes to these behaviours in future releases, but as the plug-ins and programs are currently, this is what’s expected. The only way to export a selected object without any others in Maya is to break the link between the objects and all other nodes.
Let me know if this answers your post,

How do I break the link between the objects and all other nodes?
Thanks
