The FBX 2012.1 Plug-in for QuickTime 7 (Windows) is broken.
When trying to load most files it just displays an error: “Sorry! Error loading FBX file! Could not open the file.”
The only file from the SDK sample files that opens successfully is “humanoid.fbx”, all others give the error.
I’m on Windows 7 64-bit with the latest version of QuickTime Player (7.7 (1680.34)). My locale is United Kingdom. If you can’t reproduce this error please ask me for any other settings that may be relevant.

Hello Michael78!

Could you please attach one of the files that is not working for you, as well as the file called humanoid.fbx?  We’d like to have an example of a working file and one that doesn’t, that way we can see if there are any differences that would cause the FBX for Quicktime to not work.

We’ll get back to you as soon as we have any information.

Cheers!
Carlos

Hi, I ran into the same problem. The Quicktime plugin only supports Binary files, ASCII files will generate that error.

Hi Avotas,

We’ve discovered that this is a limitation of FBX for Quicktime.  You must convert your FBX files to Binary in order to view them.

You can find more information here:

Cheers!
Carlos.
