Hi, I’ve been trying to post this reply to a topic from a few weeks ago, but each time I try to post I get an ‘internal server error.’
Hope this one goes though.  No zip file attached to this yet—just want the message to go through first

Hi,
I’m trying to import a C4D FBX scene into Flame action in Batch.  (running 2012 Flame now, not sure the version of C4D) So far it only seems to crash my system (unless I turn off models and everything else).  .OBJ files exported from the same C4d scene work fine, but they’re of course limited.  (I’m hoping to get the lights, objects, textures, etc.—but don’t need camera or animation necessarily)

It’s probably just some export options that aren’t hit right, but I don’t know enough about C4d to advise the guy, so any thoughts on this would be much appreciated… Thanks

Can you post an example that crashes for you?  (use .zip)

Hello,
I am a QA specialist for flame/smoke. Could you send us a zipped version of the C4D setup that is crashing Flame? Also which version of FBX sdk is C4D using?
Thanks

Do you want the original C4D file too?

Hi,
Sorry for the delay. I’ve reproduced the crash in flame 2012. While loading your setup into maya in noticed that the plugin version for fbx is 2010.2 If possible could upgrade your fbx plugin to the latest released version. And see if it still crashes.  I’ve noticed that there is no assigned materials to the back and legs of the chair. Is this okay?

thanks,
Yumiko

Hi, thanks Yumiko.  I’m afraid I know nothing of C4D (I’m a Flame guy) other than the trial and error with this FBX problem recently.  I don’t know how to upgrade the C4D exporter to 2012, and no one around here does either.  Can you show me where to go for that?  I find nothing on the Maxon site, etc…
Thanks!
(It’s fine that there are materials missing on the chair, etc.—this is really just a test to make C4D & Flame talk via FBX…

Hi,
I was incorrect. C4D does their integration of the fbx plugin . I suppose that C4D didn’t update to the latest fbx version with their last release. I tried putting the setup through the fbx converter http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/fbx20121_converter_mac_enu.pkg.tgz and it didn’t help much. So i suggest that you contact Autodesk support and have a bug logged againt this issue for flame 2012.  Let me know if Cactus3d helped any.

We also just purchased the Cactus Dan FBX Import/Export plugin for C4D, hoping that maybe it’ll work better, but haven’t tried it out yet…

Also, we are running C4D on Mac, not Windows—maybe that’s why the FBX Exporter is still 2010.2, even though we have the very latest version of C4D as of yesterday…
Should we try it on a PC (if there is one)?

I’ve tried out the Cactus Dan FBX plugin, and it seems to be doing everything I need—embedding textures properly, cameras, lights, etc.—and no crashes!
Thanks for your help
