Question: Which FBX SDK packaging for the Windows platform would you prefer?

One huge installer for all Visual Studio (2005/2008/2010) binaries containing both the static and dynamic libraries

Two installers for all Visual Studio (2005/2008/2010) binaries, one for static libraries and one for dynamic libraries (this is the current packaging)

Three installers, one for each Visual Studio (2005/2008/2010) binaries containing both static and dynamic libraries

Now that we provide both static and dynamic libraries for the FBX SDK, it has come to our attention that the packaging is not appropriate anymore. We would like to know which of the following packaging you would prefer?

Another option: six installers, one for each.

Agreed, all possibilities are open at this point. We are trying to reduce the size of the downloads for users, but if they want only one installer, that’s up to you folks. :)

Seems sensible to also separate out the python wrapper to a separate installer so that the sip.pyd can be placed into the local python installation as im finding that the sdk can not be easily repackaged on windows as part of a network based repository.

That is an interesting idea. In fact, we thought about delivering the python binding builds separated from the FBX SDK releases so that we can change it more frequently if needed. We will see how it goes… ;)

It would be nice if separate installers can provide us with PDB’s for libraries. Or, if it’s possible, to build libraries using “C7 compatible” format to get rid of linker warnings for VS2010.

This issue has been corrected in the 2011.3.1 release, it shouldn’t ask for PDBs anymore.
