Hi, I’m new to 3DS MAX and collada too. I’m working on a project that I need to create a 3D building and then import it into Project Wonderland v0.5 which seems to support collada only.

Now the problem is, I couldn’t even export a simple 3D cube with texture to collada in 3DS MAX...When I imported this collada file, that I exported previously, back again into 3DS MAX, the cube did not have texture on it...only showing as a gray cube…

I’m using 3ds max 2009 32-bit. For this simple 3D cube export and import testing, I tried both FBX export 2009.0, and 2009.3. For 2009.0, no warning/error messages for export, but there was a warning message when import, and the cube finally appeared as a gray cube without texture. So I upgrade FBX export to 2009.3. However, it was even worse.when I imported it, a error window poped up saying “An error has occurred and the application will now close. No scene changes have occurred since your last save “ This error even came out when I imported a collada that I downloaded from http://collada.org/owl/browse.ph...me&curview=0&sortname=ASC

By the way, my texture file I used for the cube is JPEG format.

So may I know how I’m supposed to export this with texture?

Hi, there, it works for me, I tried on a cube using 2009.3 plugin for 3ds max 2009, and use a JPEG file as texture.

Besides, this is a plugin question, it would be great if you can post these kind of questions to our plug-in section:

Thanks a lot!

Thank you, Jiayang~ maybe I can attach my collada file here (or send it to you by email if possible...cuz it looks like I can’t find “upload” in this reply window..), and could you please help me import it in, and see if it works fine?

Oh I see.
During my test, the export and improt of the collada file are all done by FBX plugin, so sure it is perfect.
So if you create your own model in 3ds Max and use FBX plug-in to export it, then I am sure you will get your texture.

However, if your collada file comes from somewhere else, then I am not 100% sure it can be imported to 3ds Max flawlessly.
FBX plug-in support collada with some limitations, cause, you know, we are FBX!

By the way, Click on “Post Reply” and you will see an attachment section, upload your file there.

Thank you very much for your advice. Here are my files…

jjj.dae is the simple cube I created, along with its texture file ROSTILE.jpeg.
cube_triangulate is the sample I downloaded from http://collada.org/owl/browse.ph...me&curview=0&sortname=ASC

error.jpeg and import.jpeg show my import process.

I’m pretty new to 3ds max as well as collada....

Thanks,
ZL

jjj.dae works fine on my side. I can import it and get the correct texture.
For cube_triangulate.dae, although there are some warnings during importing, it can also be imported to 3ds Max.

The crash showed in error.jpeg might be caused by your 3ds Max, I don’t know.  But I am pretty sure it is not caused by FBX Plug-in, and the 2009.3 version works fine on this collada case.
Maybe you should check or reinstall your 3ds Max or system…
