Hi,

I’m trying to read materials embedded in an FBX file which is exported from Revit. Apparently 3Ds Max reads the materials and textures correctly (it reads it as mental ray’s ProMaterials). But using FBX SDK, I am not able to find neither material properties nor textures (like material color and color map).

I first tried normal materials, and then tried reading the materials as MentalRay shaders and searched for all entries, but couldn’t find material properties anywhere. I also modified the importScene sample to read MentalRay shaders in place of HLSL, and below are the shader entries I got:

Materials on layer 0:
Material 0
Name: “Default Material1”
Hardware Shader Type: Mental Ray
Entry: masonrycmu_color
Texture:  <- No texture here, although mat. has color map
Entry: masonrycmu_type
Int: 1
Entry: masonrycmu_application
Int: 2
Entry: masonrycmu_pattern
Int: 1
Entry: masonrycmu_pattern_map
Texture:
Entry: masonrycmu_pattern_height
Float: 0.150000
Entry: reflection_glossy_samples
Int: 32
Entry: mode
Int: 4
Shading Model: unknown

Is there anyway to read these materials and textures similar to what 3Ds Max does?

Thanks,
Khalid
