hello autodesk
is it possible for two nodes to share the same mesh while having different materials assigned?
we would very much like to use this feature, but a test with maya 2009 64bit and FBX 2011.2 did not look promising:
- created a cube, an instanced duplicate of the cube and two lambert materials A and B
- assigned material A to the cube and material B to the instance
- saved as fbx with the option “preserve instances”
- after reopening, both cubes/nodes have material B !!!
we get the same results when we try to do this with the FBX sdk. all nodes with the same mesh pointer show the same material in maya (i think the last material assigned). sounds like a typical shared pointer bug to us…
so, what is it, bug or feature? :-)
regards,
simon

Hi Simon,
Your description seems to indicate a bug in the FBX SDK, and we clearly have a limitation in the Maya plug-in. I will open it on our database. Thanks.
