Hello again,
We have released an update to TNGViewer, featuring support for graphics cards that lack rectangle textures (e.g. Intel 915), as well as a fix for a nasty bug which prevented some Autodesk models to be textured correctly; these include the free 3D resources from NASA (in .3ds format).
As always, the ‘Check For Updates...’ option in the TNGViewer help menu is the fastest update route.
Enjoy,
Dario

Hello Michael,
I’m sorry about this incovenience. We haven’t upgraded to Windows 7 yet here in the lab—still running Vista—but in theory TNGViewer should work on 7 too… are you running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of the system?
At any rate, as soon as we upgrade and test the software, we will post the results here.
Thank you,
Dario

We’re running 64 bit.
Also, I tried loading a collada file but it failed. I’m guessing you’re using the FBX SDK to load collada files as the FBX collada support is not that great.

Hello Michael,
Unfortunately we don’t have a 64-bit version of Windows available; however, several users reported success in 64-bit Windows (confirmed are Vista and XP) after forcing the compatibility mode of the application to 32-bit… I don’t know exactly what options are available, perhaps you might give this a shot?
Regarding COLLADA files, yes, we’re using the FBX SDK to import them, and, no, the support is not great at all.
We would be happy to consider other SDKs for COLLADA support, but we have been unable to find any such library that was (1) recent enough, (2) stable enough, and (3) non GPL. If you have a library to suggest, we’d be happy to take it into consideration—without making promises, of course.
Thank you,
Dario

Hello everybody,
We have been busy adding support for multiple windows in TNGViewer; the current build looks quite stable, but we could definitely use some actual user testing before releasing it into the wild…
Basically, the File menu now contains a ‘New’ option, which will create a new, independent TNGViewer window, with its own state. This should let you view multiple models and scenes at the same time, but relatively solid iron is of course required—if you have a modern machine and would like to test the latest TNGViewer release, please specifying your platform (Win/Mac) and system (Vista/Leopard/etc.).
The usual disclaimers apply, as this is pre-release software; furthermore, if you test the build you are supposed to send us a testing report.
I am attaching a screenshot of the build running on a Core 2 Duo in Mac OS X Leopard.
Thanks,
Dario

Hello again,
We have released the major update to TNGViewer described in the previous post, featuring support for multiple independent windows.
We are looking for user testimonials in order to add them to our Web site: please feel free to send us your experiences with TNGViewer at “support AT tng3d DOT com”.
Thanks,
Enjoy,
Dario

Looks like it might be nice app but unfortunately still not working for Windows 7 64-bit (build 7100 RC1) and QuickTime 7.6.5 (1327.80) and TNGViewer 1.1.0.470. Attached a minidump of the crash if you still have the debug symbols for this build laying around you might see something obvious.

We are sorry about this incovenience, and we would like to investigate the issue; however, I could not find any attachment to your message…
If that’s okay with you, we would rather send you a debug build of the application: this might generate more useful information, starting from the output log at C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\TNGViewer\TNGViewerLog.txt
Please send us an email at “support AT tng3d DOT com” and we shall provide you with a debug build of TNGViewer 1.1.0.470.
Thank you,
Dario

Any news about this issue? We could certainly use your minidump information, but it would be much better if you contacted us to obtain a debug build of the application…
Thanks,
Dario
