I’ve used distoima to remove the distortion from my images prior to using them in 3DS Max.

In 3DS Max, my imported mesh does not line up perfectly with my image planes that I’ve added to my imported cameras. It’s close - but not the same as in imagemodeler.

Distoima seemed to do a pretty good job and by eye, the distortion remove seems about right.

Can someone offer some advice please?

And should my distortion value in Imagemodeler be a minus number if using a wide angle lens?

I’m using a 10-22mm lens at 10mm on a crop sensor DSLR and k3 distortion value is -0.0136

****EDIT**** (Copied from another forum - I was a bit clearer with my description)

I’ve imported a simple scene using FBX from imagemodeler to Max that I created using 4 single photographs.

I then used an application called DistoIma that removed the distortion from my photographs as per the values from Image modeler.

In Max I added image planes to my imported cameras using a script created by Martin Breidt and then added my images to the planes.

The image plane aspect ratio appears to be tied to that of the renderer - no problem.

The problem however is the images don’t quite line up with my geometry.

I can however get it to work perfectly in Maya using the same scene and undistorted images so I’m pretty sure my assets are not the problem and it’s something to do with my scene setup…

Solution…

Do it right the first time - I must have accidently moved something.

I have the original problem again - with the same scene - maybe this is a bug? I’ve no idea how I fixed it before - I just assumed I must have knocked something, but I’ve exported a million times to FBX and Maya.

I started my IM scene again and got a much better calibration, and modelled some denser geometry. It all looked great in IM.

When I export it doesn’t line up in Max of Maya.

I’m pretty sure I’ve removed distortion correctly, it worked before.

I’d appreciated any advice. I spent quite a bit of time modeling the mesh so don’t really want to start again…
