I had a session yesterday. It was red footage. Due to time constraints (and other problems) I couldn’t transcode before the session so was grading the raw red through wiretap.

After the session was done I had to transcode the material. One shot was giving me problems so I decided to individually transcode the shot. Now I emptied my cut and dropped the shot on the timeline, transcoded, then to my horror found that it had saved itself over my grade (and associated cut). WHY OH WHY and HOW on earth should that be possible in a piece of software in this day and age? Yes I should have had History/Autosave on (just installed SP2 and by default they’re not on), yes I should have been saving my grades in the bin but I didn’t. My guess is that I didn’t clear the grade when emptying the cut.

NOW… looking in the sacc_data the grade files in question all have saved times previous to when I ‘lost’ them. So my question is… is the grade information still in there? I’ve reassembled the edl and done a change cut into those grades with no luck but if they haven’t been resaved surely the grade meta data is still in there...(?) Please…

Help...(?)

sorry no help on this topic…
but if autodesk is listen or Stephane… maybe it would be a good idea to set every default config i can load, to autosave & backup mode, instead of switching all of them OFF… i know i can save my own… but andrew is right .. sometimes the colorists going over all the setup hassle only to start grading as fast as possible..

sorry andrew… no help from me… :(

Andrew,
it’s very important if You would say what do You exactly mean by transcode ?
Did You use wiretap TRANSCODE or normal lustre RENDER out to local renders_full position ?

I have some ideas and suggestions but need full information.
