Lustre needs in host RED Rocket support.
Having to access RED Rocket through Wiretap on another computer is retarded.

Please Autodesk update Lustre so you can install the RED Rocket Card in the z800 so you don’t need this crazy Mac in between.

Hello,

What resolution is your R3D source media and have you tried using the local WireTap Gateway on the Z800 to do the debayering into Lustre? What setting are you using in the wiretap gateway config file for debayering slaves? This could be set to 10 and you’ll get much better performance than the default of 4.

Then access your RED footage via the local gateway rather than the MAC gateway and see what happens.

Thanks Paul

I know you can playback Half Good in realtime but what is the point when you need FULL QUALITY which is a 4k debayer that only the RED Rocket card does at full res full quality full debayer.

Just seems silly why you can’t just plug the RedRocket Card into the host computer and have direct access to its acceleration.

what about setting the Lustre up using the full and proxy mode as full debayer and half good debayer respectively. This way you can grade with a 2K proxy to make your decisions then use the 4K full debayer to render your final color? It is only a toggle between the two once it is setup in your Transcode settings.

other systems offer no compromise full Red Rocket support with full REAL TIME FULL QUALITY debayer.
Why should Autodesk give us a work around that is a compromise?
Lustre is amazing so why cripple it like that?
The Z800 can be configured to accommodate the RedRocket card directly we just need the software to support it.

Rory,

first of all, I agree that it would be more than awesome to have rocket support in Lustre. I have two cards sitting in Macs that would be happy to play.

However I think that your statement isn’t totally fair saying that Lustre is crippled w/o it. I personally wouldn’t ever go through my grading process above 2k, since that would consume a lot more cpu/gpu power to grade the 4k work. I am often grading shots that have more secondaries than can play RT at half good and then I end up working at quarter proxy as well. I also don’t have a way to view 4K material anyway. I just grade quickly, check closeups sometimes at full res and then resign myself to my final render taking a little while if I need full debayer. Perhaps since most of my work is short form, it doesn’t seem like a big deal.

In case you haven’t already changed your gateway slaves, upping it from the default improves the debayering performance quite a bit. Which reminds me I haven’t yet done that for my new 2012 installation!!!

Good luck, and hopefully we will have full rocket soon!

Alex

Just trying to help within the parameters that exist.

I work only in 2k as well and need to always do a FULL QUALITY DEBAYER which is slower but gives much better results.
At the moment I have to do the transcoding and debayering using REDCineX to DPX then move those files around.

It would be nice to have full Rocket support in Lustre within the box so you can get the full quality debayer in realtime like on all other systems.
