slowdown when using trax

I’m having an issue with clip-related slowdown in Maya 2009 and 2010.  The scenario is that I bring in a skeleton, apply mocap-data and create a clip.  This causes Maya to slow down tremendously.

Oddly enough, this works fine in 8.5 (32/64) but has the problem in 2009 and 2010.  Has anybody else experienced this and if so, have you found a fix?
