Hi guys,

To create an animation similar to the one shown in the page 225, in the tutorial, I created a curve but I am not too sure that was the correct way to create it. So, can you please kindly check the steps I’ve undertaken and tell me if it was the right way:

1. Selected the Surfaces Menu.
2. In the font view, using the CV Curve Tool, created the first half.
3. Using Duplicate in the Edit Menu, I created the other half.
4. In the Edit Curves Menu, selected Attach Curves and connected two curves. (here, is it good idea to align the curves before attaching?)
5. I, then selected the Animation Menu and created an object to be used as an aircraft and followed the same steps shown in the tutorial and it worked nicely.

So, as I said previously, is there any other better way to create the curve or what I did was OK?

Many thanks

You can create the curve however you feel fit.  If your animation is going the wrong way just go to the Edit Curves - Reverse Curve Options.  You can use any type of curve you want if you are using Maya 2011 you can use the Bezier Curve. After I have created my curve, I like to use the Rebuild Curve tool and manual set the number of verts.  This way my curves verts are evenly spaced and the animation runs much smoother (Found in the Edit Curves - Rebuild Curve (option box) - Rebuild type = Uniform - Parameter range = 0 to 1 - Check keep Ends - Number of spans = however many verts you feel are need to maintain the shape and keep it smooth).

Thanks, that’s a good piece of info. I haven’t gone through the other curve tools yet but is there a way to create a curve in one piece rather than building it in two seperate pieces and attaching to each other?
