Hello everyone,

I paid someone create a model for me. I’d like to possibly find another person to pick up where they left off but I don’t know what files I should get from them.

They’ve rendered some *.mov files for me but I’d like to get from them what I need to pass this along to someone else.

Could someone please tell me what files I should ask for or expect to receive?

Is there anyway to find someone HERE to maybe contribute to this project?

Thank you

What you need to ask for is the scene file. A .mov can be a quicktime movie or a motion file, neither of which are going to anything for you.

At a minimum, you need a mayaAscii (.ma) or mayaBinary (.mb) file.

To make sure everything is included, ask them to archive the scene with File > Archive Scene. Maya will create a .zip file that contains all the necessary files.

I could complete the scenes for you. I can be reached at “michiel@thnkr.com”

Michiel,

Thank you for the quick response. I was unable to see where you can be reached at. Do you have any examples of your work?

Hi barney_g,

I was thinking if it’s just a model that you might be passing on to someone who may or may not be working in maya. You may consider and .obj file which will be small enough in file size and also holding on to UV information that might have been done by the modeler.

Please also note that if the modeler has done ANY texture or map for the model, to get those from he/she as well.

If you’re just getting the scene file in maya, without the textures/maps, the links will still be broken. In other words, there will still be missing information.

Hope it helps,
