In Max this is easy. Just put a .mov or otherwise in the diffuse slot and apply it to a plane. Doing architectural walk-throughs, I learned quick on that. However, I’m finding this more difficult in Maya 2008.
So I’m doing a project in Maya for a character skit and the TV must be on and have something playing in the background. The camera will be moving so doing this in a compositing program is out of the question.
Can anyone point me to the best method of going about this in Maya? Simply applying a .mov or .mpg to a plane in Maya doesn’t seem to work. Thanks for any help.

use the 2d texture movie node........remember to turn on “Use Image Sequence”.

Thanks. So I converted the movie to an image sequence but the animation only plays the first frame. Is this normal or do I need to learn an expression or is Maya that much more difficult to apply a darn movie to an object?

Ok I created a sequence of images for it and brought it in using the file node. It shows up when I import it but when I click the ‘image sequence’ check box, it all goes black , then tells me the image doesn’t exist in the path. What the friggin hell is wrong with this application. I hate to compare things but man, open a movie in a bitmap in max and it works like a charm.. you gotta sell your grandmother for this to work in Maya.

The files must be named filename.001.jpg, filename.002.jpg for example … If they are named filename_001.jpg etc it will not work with an animated image sequence in maya …
