| Backfaces are invisable, even though backface culling is off everywhere I can find it

Hi
I’m relatively new to maya, have been learning it on my own using Digital Tutors tutorials and the like. I have a strange problem that I’m not sure how I got. Back-Faces are now completely invisible, this makes modeling incredibly hard, because I can no longer go “inside” my mesh and tweak it from there. Is there any way I can fix this? Or some way to reset maya to factory default setting across the board? I’m running it on Mac OS X 10.5.4 and the problem presented itself a while back. I have not updated OS or anything and really don’t know what might have caused the problem.
I was going to uninstall Maya and reinstall it but the Maya Uninstaller can’t find the install database or something, so I’m kind of stuck. - Jeff
P.S. I have attached a screen capture of a mesh with X-ray rendering on, you will see that no backfaces show up.

O only know of 2 places for Backface Culling.
1. Select your Object and open the Attribute Editor. Under Mesh Component Display -> Backface Culling (Drop Down Menu)
2 Under your camera (Persp, Top, Side, Front) Drop down menus (View, Lighting, Shading, Show, Render, Panels). Open the Shading Menu, and click on Back Face Culling.
I do not know what the second option does, but it’s the only other place I know to find Backface Culling, sorry!

Wow never knew you could turn it on per object. I must have done it by accident with a key command. Thanks a lot. There is also references to backface culling in a number of the preference windows which I had already looked at along with the camera options. Thanks for the info on the Mesh Component Display. - Jeff
