Hi

Has anyone come across this error?

Error: MayaASCII file was missing a ‘requires’ statement, and may not have loaded as expected.

And if the answer is ‘yes’, how do you fix the ascii file so you can open it again? It’s obviously a problem at the source of the file because all the incremental saves won’t open either.

Any help would be appreciated. I’ve tried adding and changing the requirements in the text version of the file but to no avail.

Thanks!

Can you not save out a file that does work and copy the requires statement from there into your broken scene?

I’ve tried that but it doesn’t appear to be that simple as there’s nothing specifically saying which requirements are required.... excuse the pun.

The problem/solution appears to be where the original mesh came from. It was an fbx export from Max, but seemingly with some massive numbers in it.

So although it appeared huge in the scene and was scaled down after import, the huge numbers still existed in the ascii file in some repsect.

By making sure the scaling happened as part of the fbx import and not subsequently in Maya appears to have fixed the problem.

What the missing requirement was though is still a mystery. At least it’s working though :)
