i am an aspiring game designer, however i cant afford those fancy $1000 programs that im sure i need to make a proper game. plus, im not even through highschool yet(just a junior). So my question is, Is it posible to make a simple game in Maya? for the computer of corse. IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFORMATION ON THIS TOPIC, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

Maya “is” one of those fancy $1000 programs, so it may not matter to read any further…
It is possible to create game content in maya such as characters and vehicles, but you’ll need an actual game engine to handle things like the physics, rendering/lighting, audio, etc…

Can’t you use a game engine from any game. Like if you have BF2 installed or something?

well, if you are a beginner you can download a free version of XNA Game Studio...it can use maya/max FBX import of your 3d creations ......you have to download the free verison of Visual Studio C# Express 5 (it is the old version of c sharp)....I think it is for xbox?(not sure) but it is pretty easy to get going......

You can do the game with torque game engine and you can import your character, vehicle, weapons and animation sequence into the torque. There is an plug-in to export your things from maya, I do attach the plugin but the torque you have to from it’s site...a exe of sdk you have to . Furtherly you can download your documentations from the same site.

Really, I heared, Gothic3 may be modified, or HL2. As I understand, creating a simple engine for your own game is not so easy. But if you’ll have it and tune, you will just add models into your game

there are a huge number of skills that go into making a game. It sounds like you think it will be a lot easier than it is. For a start you are going to need to understand the game engine you are using very well and be able to prgram for that engine
You can make models and rig character and animate in Maya but you are going to need a game engine to make the actual game
Unreal and Source are the 2 big ones that are very popular with the mod communities. They come with any unreal tournament or half life game but they take a lot of learning to get them to work. There lots of tutorials for both these engines online
