Is it possible to run Maya 2008 on a Macbook? I have a student that can’t afford any more and really wants a Mac.

I’m almost sure it is possible, why shouldnt it be. I, myself run 3dsmax on a laptop so that’s pretty much the same nowadays. just make sure your macbook has a resolution of 1280x800 pixels wich is the strict minimum for maya.(a bit more would be better tho..

Macbooks have built in Intel graphics that do not support as many features as stand alone ATI or Nvidia cards do, so there may be significant display issues when using Maya.
During testing we found that the built in Intel graphics was insufficent to run maya in a usuable manner. You will notice that any Mac with built in Intel graphics is missing from the qualification pages for that very reason.
If he really want a mac and wants to run maya, then I would suggest an iMac with ATI or Nvidia graphics.

I`m working with maya 2008 on my Mac pro perfectly fine.
One of my friends has a MacBook and Maya runs Ok on it (on bootcamp).
... I don`t why but I feel Autodesk doesn`t care too much about us. Mac users… I`ve been waiting a long time for 64bit version and still NOTHING.

Macbook’s and Macbook Pro’s have very different graphics in them. I also have a Macbook Pro (ATI graphics) and it runs fine as well.
On the 64 bit version, it is not possible to do a true 64 bit app on OS X as 10.5 is the first version that has had 64 bit extensions to the OS. The hardware has been capable of doing it since the G5’s, but the OS has not supported it.
As I have said in other threads, if there is functionality that is broken or you would like to see implemented, please log bugs/sugs. As a development team, we look at how many times an issue is reported by customers and use that data to determine it’s priority compared against other bugs/sugs.

HI,
I have a macbook, and I am having problems using Maya on it (except with Windows in bootcamp). The problem first came up with Maya 8.5. It seems its a known problem with the intel GM950 64MB integrated card that came with the older version of the macbook. See thread…
http://discussion.autodesk.com/thread.jspa?threadID=537871
At the end of the thread it says the problem was fixed with Maya2008, but I have installed it on a brand new Hard drive, and the same problem exists (objects are white). Will it work if i installed Leopard?
Any ideas?
MacBook
OS X 10.4.44 (tiger)
2.0 GHZ Core 2 Duo
2GB Ram
320GB Hard Drive
Intel GMA 950 64MB integrated Graphics Card

Is your Mac book a Pro or just a Notebook? I have a Macbook pro running 10.5.5 with a ATI Radeon X1600 card in it. And I have never had a problem Maya 2008, or even 8.5. But reading the thread from the link you left some guy states he has a link to a fix for your type of prob, but for me that link did not come through. Did you try going to the website for your graphics card and seeing if there are any fixes or patches? the only thing I could think of is that the card could have the issue.
Oh and one other thing you can do is write Mac support About it they might be able to make the patch for it. I have a friend that has a Music program that was coming out with errors and wrote Mac developers about it and they came out with a patch specifically for his prob. So you could try that as well.

Its the MacBook note book (not pro). The link in the thread didnt work for me either. I’ve tried contacting Mac support about it and they says its Maya’s problem.
