Hi There!

Does anyone know if it is possible to bring a maya 2008 .ma file into Maya 8.5?

File -> Open ❐ (option box) Turn on Ignore Version.

You could also, open your .ma scene in a text editor, and change all the labels with “2008” to “8.5” from for example: “//Maya ASCII 2008 scene to //Maya ASCII 8.5 scene”. and save the file and it should work too.

You can only use this method if the scene was save in MayaAscii (.ma) format. Most people save in MayaBinary (.mb) anyways.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Just checking the ‘ignore version’ box worked so I didn’t have to go through the hundreds of lines of text in the .ma file.

There’s only 2 or 3 lines to edit - right at the top of the file… but yes, ‘ignore version’ box is much more friendly.
