Hi all,
Even though my Maya (and XSI) were working fine, they stopped working from one day to another without any warning (or reasoning). I only received this error message: “Maya application file has stopped working” (see attached image).
After many hours of trial and error I found out that my antivirus software AVIRA thinks that the apcw.exe which is responsible for licensing actually contains a trojan virus and keeps it from working (as must be the case for XSI but I don’t know which exe it uses or stops). Anyway, by turning off AVIRA fully I was able to start Maya again. Now I only need to find out how to fix this problem forever (I just bought Norton =)…
Anyway, I’ll keep you posted. I hope this helps someone that ran into this issue as well. It took me so much time that I thought it’s worth sharing.
Have fun and keep on animating,
Lx

That is very useful information. Thank you for posting it here.

Seems like I’m not done with this yet. If anyone has some tips I’d very much appreciate it. The problem is back again despite switching/turning off the antivirus software. I was able to overcome it once by reinstalling the license key, then another time by turning off the antivirus software… and now it’s back again. I will reinstall the whole PC if nothing else helps… Lx
