Opening a Maya 2008 file in Maya 8.5

Hi,
I have a file that’s created in Maya 2008 and I’m running Maya 8.5. It won’t open.. Is there a way to open this up and work on it in my version of Maya?

-save as an .ma
-open in a text editor and change all 9.0’s to 8.5 and 2008’s to 8.5
dont do a find/replace, just go along the first few lines manually. (you dont wanna mess up the whole scene accidently)
-save then open it up..

but how do I save it as a .ma file if I can’t open the file in 8.5?  I do see in the script editor the version as the 8.5. is trying to launch it.. but ihow do it change it to a .ma file?

Simply go into “file-open scene-option box” and check the box that says “ignore version”.
