i agree its a huge task to create these buffers for each and every object
well with scripts its fast ...
i am writing a workflow diagram where in most of it can be handeled through script ...
if it works then probably it may be easy ...
lets see ...

but this is more useful in animation ( like features and tv serials)
where one thing is set and then you just have to look after production ...
in such cases this has to be incorporated in the pipeline during shader creation then thats useful in the long run ...
even i am new to frame buffers so can write much about them either ...

What about if we wanted to use render layers that have been setup to act as reflection, spec, diffuse & so forth that would normally be output as
example
C:\Project\Images\ReflectionPass\Shot01_Reflection_001.iff
C:\Project\Images\SpecularPass\Shot01_Spec_001.iff
C:\Project\Images\DiffusePass\Shot01_Diffuse_001.iff

is there a way to get these passes into an exr format so layers just get rendered “inside” an exr file? that way no custom shaders needed and your setting your reflection, diffuse blabla the way thats needed for that job.

Is this even possible because I think that would be an ok way to work with exr files, if your already setting passes up, really you just wanna compress them into a single exr so there’s not 8+ passes floating around for a single shot., but rather a single exr sequence containing the passes.

Or perhaps a way of getting the passes when rendered and putting them into an exr sequence afterwards??

Any thoughts?
