Okay, so I am still kind of new to uv mapping, so this might be a really easy fix. I am uv mapping the tire of a car, and I have it in 4 seperate pieces (See below picture). The left side is the tire walls, and the right side is the outer part of the tire. What is the best way to shrink the uv’s down so they all fit into the top right square, or can I extend the texture to cover all four squares.
Thanks.

I’m in the same boat dude. I just got into UV’s and only know so much. I believe you want to keep all of them in the top right. Right click and select UV mode. Select all of them and scale them down to the size you want. It’s important to keep them off of the edges of the UV space. In other words, the UV’s on in all four quadrants would be to close to the sides. Lemme know if that doesn’t work, I have a massive Gnomon UV DVD but haven’t gotten to it yet.

I would scale them down if:
A. I knew how to do that in the uv texture editor, and
B. I could do it perfectly, like snap to the edges or something like that.
Thanks for the reply.

In the texture editor, just right click on the geometry, select UV (nothing will change) then left click and drag a selection over all of the geometry. You should now see all the UV’s, Press R for the scale tool and you should be on your way.
If that does not work, or you cannot select the UV’s, you may have a setting turned off.

You cannot cover all 4 squares, it must all fit in the top right. The idea is to waste as little space as possible. If you right click, choose UV, the select a UV and CTRL+Rightclick and select “To Shell” it will select everything connected to that piece. Something to keep in mind is that if, for example, the sides of your tires can have the same texture on them, if that is the case you can move them on top of each other. This will let the UVs to occupy a larger area, which will give your textures a higher resolution. I hope this makes sense, but if it doesn’t let me know and I’ll try to go into more detail!

Thanks guys, I got it to work with your advice. I moved them all into the top right square, and put them on top of each other. Thanks again.
