Hey everyone. I’m new to the community and I’m doing some research on resellers of student versions of this program so I can build up my portfolio while I’m in school. I was recently recommended to get one from Studica.com. Now this is a $4,000 + program and the perpetual student version on this site is around $400. I really need to know if this site is legit and if anyone knows anything about them.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, it’s legit. http://www.journeyed.com is another popular site for Student Software.
Autodesk offers discounted software to elligible students.

but the last time i bought maya i had a look and found a reseller near where i live so maybe there is also one in your near? have a look! so it can be usefull if there are any problems like i had when buying maya 8 and the dongle wasn´t working because autodesk wasnt able to fix it for about one year!

Yes it is legit. I am looking to get the educational Maya as well. So you know I talked to Studica yesturday and they informed me there is no student version of Maya 2010. There will only be....well here is the email response from them.

“They are not coming out with a Maya 2010, they are instead selling
Autodesk Education Suite for Entertainment Creation 2010

which includes: *Autodesk® 3ds Max® 2010 software
*Autodesk® Maya 2010 software
*Autodesk® Softimage® 2010 software
*Autodesk® MotionBuilder® 2010 software
*Autodesk® Mudbox™ 2010 software”

I still need to find out how upgrading to commercial will be.

Also I am curious about the upgrade cost. I know on the studica site the cost to upgrade from maya 2009 unlimited ed. to commercial is 1,298.95, which is a lot cheaper then buying it out right from autodesk.

is this correct?

Ok just got studica on the phone about 2009 upgrade cost to commercial and it’s is cheaper for students to upgrade to commercial, but only if you purchase the perpetual educational license. They didn’t know how the upgrade to commercial would be for the autodesk education suite 2010 though. I assume you just pick the main package you want to use(i.e. 3DSmax,Maya or Softimage)and that is the Entertainment creative 2010 you upgrade to and still no idea the cost to upgrade.
