Since I do not currently need it, I tend to get annoyed when this plug-in somehow becomes required for a file. I have searched, but nobody seems to have posted regarding this, including newer versions of Maya.
Well I did track down how it is happening. Every time I change a panel through the panels menu>panels drop down, the mouse has to roll over ‘Stereo Camera’ to get to the orthographic cameras - and Maya thinks that means I want to load up the stereo camera, so it gets loaded.
Using the space bar to access the panels menu it is ‘kind’ of possible to guide the mouse away from the stereo camera on the way to the ortho camera, but that does not always work.
For me, this means if I am not paying attention a file gets saved with the stereo camera as a requirement, meaning Maya will load this plug in. Getting rid of it by commenting out the requirement statement in the ma file means I have to load up a text editor.
I do not know how much resources the stereo camera takes, it is probably negligible, but it’s the principle of it.
Currently I have moved it out of the /bin/plugins/ folder until it learns to not be so eager. But this produces warnings and red messages every time I mouse by in the panel drop down.
