I have asked this once before but I didn’t get an aswer so I’m trying again. So always after using Maya for a while, usually around 15 minutes, I press or do something which changes my Q,W,E,R hotkeys till I restart Maya. For example pressing ‘W’ would not choose the moving tool but enable either ‘Select by object type or Select by component type’. Q,E and R seem to do something which I can’t even see. This thing also unables my own hotkey’s such as Ctrl + E and undoing (Ctrl + Z).

Any idea what I always keep doing which activates this thing? I know tt’s not Caps lock.

Update: I noticed that this thing also sets everything I type in Maya into russian or some other similar language.

Hey I was wondering if you ever figured out this issue because I ran into a similar thing where my hotkeys started doing something different. I checked the hotkeys menu and everything seem to be mapped right. No caps lock or anything of that sort.

I’m not sure about the language problem so far but, about the hotkeys, when that problem starts to occur( as you said after 15 mins or so), open hotkey editor from Window>Settings/Preferences> Hotkey editor… and check whether every key is set right and if yes then change any thing and click apply… if they’re different then set them right and then click apply.. If this way you’ve to make those changes every now and then, Maybe theres a need to re install your whole Maya package! ( Re-installing may set even the language problem)

It happened again and when looking at the Hotkey editor you mentioned, all the hotkeys look normal so I think the problem must be that my keyboard is sending wrong letters. For example pressing ‘q’ gives me now ‘й, ‘w’ gives ‘ц’ and so on..

All the letters work just fine in every other program so this seems to be something in Maya. I may have to try that reinstalling Maya some day. Thanks for the help though!

Are you on a windows system? It used to happen to me when I was working on a mufti-language system the keyboard switched to the other language sometimes on its own and that affected the hotkeys, for me switching the lang back with ctrl-shift solved the problem for the session.

Yes, I’m using Windows Vista but all the language settings are set to my own so I don’t know why it would even choose this russian like one in Maya. I’ll try that ctrl-shift again at next time, even though I think I have already tried it once. Thank you.

You can get those special characaters by pressing Ctrl+Alt+ few letters n a english keyboard… its like, Ctrl+Alt+r gives --> ®.. and ctrl+alt+m gives µ… so maybe thats got something to do with this… try pressing those letters which lead you to the problem in Maya, in a notepad… and also try them pressing with Ctrl and Alt pressed… If you get the same letters which you mentioned earlier, you might be presing ctrl and alt or maybe its a fault with your keyboard so that it automatically presses Ctrl+Alt… my old keyboard had the same prob
