Hi guys,
Im a highschool student and are school uses Maya 2007. Now I want to work on my project at home but I am wondering if I purchase maya 2009. Is it going to work when I bring my 2009 project to school? I don’t know If I explained this clearly but Im currently working on a spaceship project at school using maya 2007. So Im going to take my project home and work on it using maya 2009. But when I bring my project back to school the next day will it work in Maya 2007?
Also Should I just purchase Maya 2008?
Im only worried about compatibility. Thanks for reading hope i can get some answers in the next couple of hours.

usually using maya ascii (*.ma) works.
if you get an error trying to open your file with an older version you should open your *.ma-file with the editor, change the version to the correct one and save it.
until now this always worked.
you can run into trouble if you have used features in maya, the older version doesn´t have.
so long, me

Purchase Maya 2009 for your home machine.
On your school’s machine, go into the ‘open scene’ option box in Maya - and check the ‘ignore version’ box to allow it to open scenes from 2009.

If you’re learning maya 2007 at school I would suggest you install 2007 at home and learn that for now instead of converting the files. Learn 2009 after.

Hi, and note that your SCHOOL is 3 versions older. In my opinion, this is not very serious for a school. And im pretty sure you paid the full price for your course. Tell them to look at the subscrition for their licences.
