| Change Maya navigation to same as Max?
|
|
|
i tried to switch to maya couple of times but gut so used to max navigation controll i cant stand maya.
can u guys tell me how can i change default maya navigation keys so they would match to max ?
Am not talking about AWSD keys to move the camera or UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT or any other short cuts, am talking about camera navigation, click alt MMB to move around but i want it to rotate around the object like max did.
Is this possible ? I tried but i cannot edit default bindings :(
Thanks in advance

A good way to get the camera rotations in order is to just hit the ‘f’ key.
This frames whatever you have selected and also make it the center of rotation.
This works for objects as well as components such as verts or faces.
The ‘a’ key will frame everything in the scene and rotate around everything.
Careful with this, as it can zoom you way out past your far clip plane, depending on what you have in your scene.
This should make you feel a bit more at home in MAYA.
All the best.

I couldn’t rotate around the scene to save my life, thanks for the “a” key tip. The Learning movies say you just need to press and hold the alt key + click and drag with the left mouse button, but it just wouldn’t work. Now it does. Thanks!

Sorry I saw “but i want it to rotate around the object like max did.”
and I ignored the first part of the sentence.
Thought I could at least help you with that, because I have never known anyone who has been able to remap the camera controls in maya...hopefully there is someone out there reading this right now!

My suggestion is to learn how to navigate in Maya. The navigation in Maya is by far more powerful and much more productive than MAX.

that is your personal opinion.
I just want to be able to set my own preferences.
I mean they are the already set but why grayed out (locked) ?

Yeah I have the same problem I am used to Softimage and I want to use Maya but I cant change the key binding on the mouse so it drives me crazy specially because I still want to use softimage for some things maya doesent have, Like ICE, or good modeling tools. Iv done a bunch of research without any luck so I think this is a Autodesk question at this point.

I use maya to do complex product animation. We receive most of are models form PROE and use Polytrans to convert the model to a obj format. The models come in as a triangulated mess. Many of our simulation use fluid. This requires me to use maya to navigate through all of the fluid passage of the parts. I use the brush selection tool to select the areas as I travel through each tube with the camera. I then extract the geometry for fluid simulations. This would be a nightmare in Max. I know this because started in Max. I am always paying close attention to the new innovation in Max and Softimage. I am a part owner of a company (ANIFEX). I am impressed with many of the tools Max is starting to implement. I use maya for the very reason that I can animate thousands of parts using set driven keys, expressions, bones, hair, IK splines, Deformers, Time warps, and many other tools. The program has it flaws but, what makes it amazing is almost every tool can talk to one another, this allows you to find several solution to solving complex animation issues. I too had a hell of a time switch from Max to Maya, but I can say the the hard work is well worth it.
