I have my Maya 2010 64 bit files (created on a Windows7) that I have been able to open just fine with Maya 2011 (on a Mac). BUT, when I try to work the opposite way, Maya 2011 (Mac) back to Maya 2010 Wind7), the files will no longer open in Maya 2010. I get a error curropted files message. But the file is not curropt becuase I can open it again on the Mac with Maya 2011. I am wondering what the problem is and if there is something I need to download to be able to work back and forth between the Maya 2010 and 2011 versions. Perhaps it is a system preference setting so that Maya 2011 saves files to be compatible with 2010?

Please help
Thanks!

What is the EXACT error message?

"Errors have occurred while reading this scene that may result in data loss. Please check the Script Editor for details.”

Script Editor says,

file -f -o “F:/ROOT/snow scene/snow scene.mb”;

// Error: line 1: Unknown Maya file version: 2011. //

// File read in 0 seconds.

// Warning: Errors have occurred while reading this scene that may result in data loss.

Please check the Script Editor for details. //

// Error: Error reading file. //

// Error: Error reading file. //

commandPort -securityWarning -name commandportDefault;

Then it says in the Output window, “Maya binary file parse error: : (6) corrupted file structure

Sounds like you didn’t turn on “Ignore Version”. See http://www.thnkr.com/wiki/index.php?title=Backward_Compatibility

Hey, that’s brilliant. I’ll have to try this out back and forth, but I’m sure that’s the quick fix solution I’ve been looking for. Thanks!

if that does not work, save it as an ASCII file instead of a .MB file.

This should import into older versions of maya and also hit the ignore version box as THNKR said:)

As sometimes I find for some odd reason that an .MB does not import properly.

Maybe thats just with me, I find a few errors in my files sometimes.
