By any chance, does anyone know of a better file import tool than what Maya has built in? It seems like all you can do currently is merge in an entire file, not pick specific objects you want to merge in.  So, you have to load the other file up, select the stuff you want to merge into the first file, and use ‘export selection’.

In Max you pick which file you want to merge, and before it merges that file it will pop up a list of all the objects you can merge...allowing you to pick and choose what you want to merge.  It will even ask you if you want to automatically reparent orphaned children objects you’re merging (i.e. you chose to merge them but not their parents) if their parent exists in your current scene.

Does such a script exist, by any chance?
