Also the rendering in mental ray takes a very long time to get a single frame done even in the most basic settings. I'm working on a project combining 2D and 3D, relying heavily on the use of animated textures with alpha transparency. My issue is that my textures have a black outline around the edges, both in the viewport and in renders. The textures are coming into Maya unpremultiplied (with aliased colour channels extending to the edges of the antialiasing on the alpha) and the black outline is more obvious the further away from the camera the object is in render, so this seems to be something Maya is doing rather than an issue with my textures. I have found that manually extending the colour channels beyond the edges of the alpha seems to solve the issue but considering the volume of textures I'd have to do this to, this isn't really a viable workaround.
