Just installed the Mac demo. QT UI is a godsend, but the font you chose is not ideal and seems crammed in some parts. titles looked like an extended font. The frame numbers are cut off on top of the timeline. New shelf icons look nice and clean.

I like the fact you can save favorites of textures and shaders. I am not thrilled about the custom file browser window. Is there a way to use the OS X file browser instead of the custom one you created?

Also, I detest that the color chooser is just a tool-tip kind of popup window now. When I work I like to keep the color chooser open so I can quickly make changes to shaders. now if my cursor slightly moves away from the color chooser popup, it vanishes. I don’t use a mouse, only a tablet and this is so frustrating. PLEASE ALLOW US TO CHOOSE how the color chooser works.

I also just found a bug in the particle system. I created a simple emitter emitting points and colliding with 2 objects. When I created an rgbPP attribute and assigned a ramp, the objects inherit the color (and lifetime color attributes) and it animates color on their surfaces in the viewport. This never happened in previous maya versions. I didn’t test render it so maybe it’s just a display bug.

I also noticed that the UI reacts slower when changing emitter attributes during playback, i.e. changing emitter speed, particle count, spread, etc. even when particle counts are very low.

There is still a bug in Mac version when changing attributes in attribute editor that has existed for years. When you change an attribute of any any node and hit “return” key, the cursor remains active in the input text field. This is beyond annoying because you need to click on the UI or in the viewport to get the cursor out of there. if not, hitting a hotkey (such as to select the move tool) will type a character in the input text field. this is a huge flaw in productivity. PLEASE PATCH THIS.

I would love to see multi-threading in sss lightmap generation. right now it still uses only 1 core and is no faster than older maya versions.

I haven’t tested large scenes that need a lot of RAM which is what I really am excited about with 64-bit support on OS X. Will add more feedback as I use the demo.

I am not thrilled about the custom file browser window. Is there a way to use the OS X file browser instead of the custom one you created?

To use the native Mac OSX browser, you can go in Window - Settings/Preferences - Preferences - File/Projects. Under the File Dialog section, choose “OS native”.

I have a quick question I was watching the QT demo and I was wondering the guy that demo’d it just put the ui in the C Temp file, but if I want to share this file whats the command to have it so it find the file in the for example the script folder in the maya folder???

where to put it depends on your Maya environment and paths that you’ve set up. the command is loadUI.

-i can’t draw edges with split poly tool on embty faces -there is must be an edge to connect to it
and this i don’t like - casue i always draw my edge conestruction planing and then edit it to four sided and make it right after i deside my plane of cuts and loops first to can think right what i will do !!!

-delete history shourtcut
i was always hit caps lock - then i hit Alt+D to delete history } was easy
now i can’t i must hit Alt+shift+D

- in some marketing menu the small option box so close to the words it need to be more spaced and need more correctly spaced in the fields
for example select any obj and press shift + right click

-” -i had some crashs in simple things
like when i try to change light type from attr editor for example from omni light to area light, inside attr editor of the light etc, “

and when i change the material type in attr editor too crashes too

can i make the new interface brighter a bit?
also its quirky and flashes.

I loose all lights in viewport 2.0 after a while or after i render a image or two.. (alot of banding in the shadows of vp2.0 how do i get rid of that?)

I will install new nvidia drivers for winXP64 (released today 4-7-10) but i dout they will fix glitch and flash issue in maya2011 (running 2 Nvidia Quadro FX 4600 cards..so i dont know i have a problem with interface glitching)

any suggestions on what to sset in my OpenGL nvidia settings to make new qt interface run wo. glitching??
i just have it set to maya preset now.
I wish we had the option to turn on/off the new qt interface but i know its a total revamp..

unfortunatly cuz im on winXP64 probabnly the solution will be to install windows 7 to take advantage of its better gfx supprot?!?

so will probably stay workin in maya 2010 for a bit.. what about bonus tools 2011?
I am suprised how many of the plugins are ALREADY available for maya2011!?!!? I gues autodesk releasd the 2011 sdk early!! BIG Thumbs up there to help out the plugin developers to have 2011 plugs ready the day the 2011 release hit!

Hi, I’m having the same screen redraw and interface glitches, especially when pressing spacebar to quickly toggle between views (fairly prolonged flash of white on screen before view switches with Aero desktop on, and with it off you get a ghost of your maya interface behind the hot box). Also dragging or resizing any of the channel box/viewport windows results in some redraw/trailing issues. Generally quite a lot of flashing and glitching going on. Hard to explain without pics I guess.

Running an i7 with Quadro FX 3800, Win7 64bit, latest Nvidia Drivers. Anyone?

I do have the same “when AERO is off I get a ghost of my maya interface behind the hot box” problem with Maya 2011.
But, I do not have Nvidia, I have ATI Radeon HD 5770 OpenGL3. Is this a qt - openGL problem? It reminds me of a problem I had with blender (interface glitching) in linux with the same hardware…

As anyone been able to trace this problem?

(about 1h after)

I have been testing… with AERO on, everything is fine… Perhaps some malfunction on API calls between aero on and off… or just the botom layer, in this case, the OS :] cof..cof :]

most importantly where is the autodesk materials library it should be there it is an autodesk application after all and its even show in the seventh start up video so whats going on with this is it comming on a hot fix latter why was it removed in the first place as we know it was there because we can see it, or is it because autodesk is trying to slowly kill of maya and force us all on to max?

so whats the story with that “ TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen” in the \automaticDuck\duckSmokeImport.exe?

also i have to complain again about the lack of support and/or optimization for ATI card users and this release fairs no better. I was hopeing that you guys would acomodate us lesser mortals with a program that works smoothly on “normal” graphic cards.This has been an recurring issue.
I have a ATI 1GB 4870 and i still have stuttering and slow renders with the 2011.

automaticDuck is the library we use for sharing/reading/writing the editorial timeline in the Camera Sequencer - same technology as used in Smoke and Flame.

we do what we can with the graphics cards - unfortuately the drivers are out of our control.

i second that what about some decent supportfor those of us that refue to pay nvidia any money because they are ncompetative among other things

Maya 2011 is a great release:

+ Particle rotation
+ new fluid options
+ invisible faces
+ the small colorchooser that leaves without a click (nice fast workflow)
+ HDR image display and manipulation in renderview
+ Displacement to Polygons with History
+ QT new interface
+ and more ...

but also:
- QT interface flashes when changing layout by spacebar or left icons
- QT interface slow menus (Yes, more than 80 ms is slow, i sometimes used 20 ms or less)
With previous Versions of Maya the Menu-speed was controllable by
the Windows “MenuShowDelay”.
I hate it when i’m faster and have to wait for the PC.
This is the most annoying “feature” for now.

Works fine for me.  I would make sure in the Split Polygon Tool options that the “Split only from edges” is NOT checked.  By default it is checked on, so maybe it got reset in your latest preferences?

offcourse i uncheckd “Split only from edges only ” still i can’t draw on empty faces i must start from edge and end to edge
for example “ try to draw box with split edges inside empty plane with no segmant without connect to outer edges of the plane . so u can’t :(
even the help say the line must start with edge and end with edge
i can’t draw inside empty face still same proplem - acualy it is not a proplem cause they do it like this
and i see this a very bad step for modeling techniques - in maya 2009 and 2010 i was able to draw inside empty faces without need and edges to start with or end with
