Maya always asks to save a scene (ok almost always)…

so please fix it so there is a “Save As” option.

Thanks

Agreed, but in case you are unaware of it there is Save As as in the file menu, and if you tend to be a shortcut guy like me, set it in HotKey, I prefer Ctrl+Shift+s..GLuck..aite !

The angles of the octants in the marking menus are no longer in proportion to each other in 2011. North and South are much wider than East and West. NW, SW, NE, SE are in between the 2 extremes.

Sometimes when I’m working, I overshoot into NW, SW, NE, SE when I try to swipe into East or West. This affects my working speed which affects how quickly I can finish my job.

I’ve seen some videos online of other people using their marking menus and I notice the same problem. This issue didn’t exist prior to Maya 2011.

It looks like the problem could be fixed by horizontally scooting the E, W, NW, SW, NE, SE, menu items closer to the center of the marking menu (i.e. it would close the angle of the N and S menu items).

This is a very serious problem for me because almost all of my working process involves the use of marking menus.

I’ve colored(red, blue, yellow) the angles of the octants in the image below for clarity.

Edited this post on 6/29/2010. Added the following…
BTW. I’m using Maya 2011 hotfix 2.

Did you double-click on the color swatch to open the full color chooser?

See User Guide > General > Basics > Basics Windows and Editors > Color Chooser

really i love this software Maya && i love the interface, the menus,shelfs,...i love working creating on this software from 10 years ,Maya 1 Beta .... ,but really the last version was not good at all,:( I prefer working with Maya 2009 cause there is no real upgrade in the 2010&2011...nothing added but somthings r removed ..for example i dont know why they remove the multilister, the new change in the interface colours, the tabs ..is not so useful i feel that the autodesk maya designers r not increasing the capabilty of maya .....they r adding nothing, that i prefer to working with the old versions than the new one ......hope to change this in the new versions...thx

maybe you donnt see the changes… the whole maya code is ported to a new up to date code/ui library… cause the old one motiv is dying… with Qt they are able to develop much faster… the port was a huge step for maya… maybe the biggest one in the last five years… and thats also the reason for the 2010 version… the port took longer than two release cycles…

Qt is a new base for maya to build on…
mudbox, nuke, mari, are also based on QT as most of the inhouse pipelines in highend studios…

Personally I have found the rebuild of Maya 2011 to be more useful over all. Love the new interface and the redesign for some of the tools are really helpful. HOWEVER! The fact that my extrude tool manipulator has completely vanished has put my work at a stand still. I’ve been using maya for going on 7 years now and I’ve never encountered such an annoying issue. I’ll be using 2009 until this kink gets worked out.

I think it’s great but the only gripe is that none of the file texture scripts from highend don’t work in 2011, why would this be, is it to do with the new interface. If anyone can recommend a tenure manager for 011 please help!
cheers

I’m still having problems with the space bar causing massive glitching and ghosting windows. Switching on Aero desktop reduces the ghosting but causes glitchy white flashing when entering in and out of views. (again with space bar).

Pretty much screwed up. Is there a workaround for this? I have an i7 based system with a 3800 quadro and latest drivers. This is really annoying as im constantly using the hot box and the lag and glitchyness is starting to do my nut in. Even after hotfix 3 it still seems pretty busted to me.

Anyone?

thanks

I’ve only been able to reproduce the ghost window with the hotbox when the Wacom tablet driver is installed and the Wacom virtual Hid driver is enabled.  If you have the Wacom driver installed, go into the Windows device manager and disable it.  Its used for handwriting recognization or some such purpose.

The “white flashing” with Aero is also seen with pre Maya 2011, its not new to 2011, though it is more noticable

You just made my day!. WOOOO!

Disabled the WACOM HID driver and i’m back to maya 2009/2010 interface performance. No more glitchy menus/redraw issues or ghosting images. Even the hypershade speed is back. Autodesk seriously need to get on this one. Ridiculous bug really..

White flashing with Aero is sill there between hotbox viewport switching… but aero sucks and i’ve always had it off even when running previous Mayas. I believe Autodesk’s tests/specs are all done with Aero off anyways.. as I recall from the hardware guide.

Wacom is aware of the problem, and looking into the reason for the conflict

Note that if you cycle through the viewport presets on the left side of the Maya window by clicking on all of them, top to bottom, you eliminate the white flashing for your session. You need to do this every time you start up Maya. So, although there may be a conflict with Windows Aero, it obviously is fixable. So, I hope Autodesk is working hard to fix this issue of white flashing and not pass it off as a Windows Aero problem with the fix being: “just turn Aero off.”

I too have noticed ths lately on that my white flash area is at the bottom of the maya window and doesnt not actually affect my work, and that it disappears as soon as I release the space bar or a bit later..!!
