I use Lion and Maya 2012 and the only thing I can say about it is that it runs faster on my machine than both 2010 and 2012 on Snow Leopard.
I have a simple configuration though, a MacBook Pro from last year with nVidia GT GPU.

Runs fine on this configuration anyway…

EDIT:

I’ve had so much trouble with a project the last couple of days where Maya 2012 keeps crashing every time I go from shaded persp full to quad view. Tried the same on my Windows machine where it worked flawlessly. Trying to “downgrade” to OS X 10.6 today to see if that works…

The installation of Maya 2012 says it failed in OS X Lion and that it required an older version of OS X (10.4 or 10.5) however, I found the Autodesk folder in my Apps and Maya and the other apps are all in there. Maya 2012 works just fine in OS X Lion.

If your a student you can download most of autodesk software on a student licence for 3 years - Also I just install Maya 2012 on Lion OSX and it did say my system was to new but it still seems to have installed ok at this point. Hope this helps!
