I would agree with Maneswar - sounds like a firewall issue, make sure to allow Maya in your firewall settings…

Yeah, I had the exact same problem and I, too, had to disable my McAffee firewall.
Works fine without the firewall enabled. If you have to, I’m sure you can find exactly what port Maya needs and open it up--I just temporarily disable my firewall when batch rendering now. Works for me.

Its very unorthodox ...
you may be facing this when you have two maya interfaces open at the same time ..
close one maya and then try it again :)
