I have a 64 bit processor.
I have been using Maya on XP Pro(686) with no troubles but recently I was asked to trade operating systems with another person in my household, both machines are mine.
When I finished I had Vista home Premium(686) and troubles with Maya.
The Viewport blanks out every time I changed focus away from the viewport.
I had other troubles that stem from the fact that nVidia’s drivers get confused and refuse to install on a machine that has a 64 bit processor and a 32 bit system. So I ordered the 64 bit version of Vista home premium, installed the correct drivers reinstalled my software and still have the same problems with Maya.
Question is how do I fix this problem before my software is no longer supported? Is there a 64 bit patch I can get to fix this?
At this time I can not afford to even buy the upgrade to 8.5 so I have a brick wall heading at me fast.

It says on their site that Maya 2008 is supported in :
The 64-bit version of Maya 2008 software is supported on any of the following operating systems:
Microsoft Windows Vista Business
Microsoft Windows XP x64 Edition (SP1 or higher)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 WS (U5)
Fedora Core 5
Not sure if you are running Maya 2008 or if Ultimate/Home editions of 64bit work - I would imagine they would unless Microsoft is doing something odd to make them different

Maya 7 is not compatible with vista. there are issues with mixed GDI and OpenGL calls. If you can’t upgrade, probably your best route would be to disable the Aero/compositing desktop interface when running Maya.
