I have been using Maya 8.5 for years out without any problems. All of a sudden, it is now quitting our when I try to use the file menu!
Through the file menu I cannot:
-open scene
-save scene
-import
-export
-set a project

I can do everything else in Maya it seems, I can even open a file by double clicking on it in the file folder. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing and no luck. I have uninstalled recently installed programs… no luck. I am running Windows XP

Anyone have any ideas??

Uninstalling and reinstalling Maya rarely solves anything. The chances that the software itself gets damaged are rather slim. Your preferences on th other hand, are constantly being changed and overwritten, and are at significant risk of corruption. Rename your preferences folder and restart Maya. Maya will recreate the default preferences. It’s quicker than reinstalling and much more likely to fix the issue.
